Our strategic communications process is D-focused: Discover. Develop. Deliver.

Discover

It’s blue onion’s job as your advertising agency to learn everything about your business, your customers and potential customers.  This is a combination of finding out what you already know, acquiring research and determining the gaps.  This gap analysis may indicate we need to do more research with current and/or past customers.

Sometimes what clients think they know about their customers is absolutely correct.  Sometimes asking customers different questions brings new perspectives, new ideas and new business opportunities.

Finding those new advertising or marketing opportunities is what blue onion brings to the party.

blue onion subscribes to all of the important secondary research tools, such as Simmons, Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI), Scarborough and TNS Media Intelligence.  We can also produce primary research to solve specific marketing or advertising problems.  This includes “man on the street” interviews with customers and lost or potential customers with our own HD camera and planning staff.  Or, we may commission focus groups or quantitative studies with trusted research partners.

Either way, we’re with you all the way through the deep data dive to developing key learning from the process.

Develop

Once we’ve collected all the data from our discovery and research process, we then begin the brainstorming process.  What information is relevant?    What makes your company uniquely qualified to provide your products and/or services?  Where are the business opportunities?  What are the big ideas?  Where do we begin?

As a team, we decide where we’re going and how we’re going to get there.  We define and refine the target audience and what they care most about.  We define short term and long-term goals.  We consider your competition and how they might react to change.  We look at trends and make suggestions for the future.

Deliver

We don’t start working on the messages until we’ve all agreed on the strategic positioning, the target audience, the task, the promise and support, the brand personality and the measurement criteria.  Fancy advertising agencies call it ‘the creative brief’, so we’ll call it that too.

Once the brief is approved, the creative team’s brainstorming begins.  Then we’ll show you a range of concepts.  Together we’ll decide on the best approach.  Then the execution begins. All your executions will be produced in-house with our team of writers, designers, producers, editors, film crew and web developers. Before you know it, your sales increase.  And you’ll never look at the letter ‘d’ the same way again.
